THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Wednesday conducted ‘Operation Gramam’, a state-wide raid at the village offices to check on the corruption. In raids conducted from Kasargode to Thiruvananthapuram, as many as 74 teams led by DYSP of each district participated

The raid was conducted after receiving complaints about the irregularities in revenue recovery proceedings, delay in issuing certificates and discrepancies in mutation process related to land deals. During the raids, the sleuths found several applications awaiting for disposal all over the state. Similarly, the collected amount as tax revenue was found not mentioned in the cash book. The receipts of the Chief Minister’s relief fund was also found vague and the officials were not present at the office on time. In many offices, delay was found in issuing certificates related to income, location, caste and creamy layer. Besides,


many village offices have not displayed the notice boards of the vigilance warnings regarding corruption. Speaking to ‘Express’, Vigilance Director in-charge N Shanker Reddy said the flash raid was conducted in the wake of the requests made by the public on the irregularities and corruption prevailed in village offices in the state.

“Many people were not comfortable with the proceedings being undertaken at the village offices. They had to wait for long periods for getting things done. Hence, we decided to conduct a surprise raid,” he said. The vigilance director added that disciplinary actions and further measures would be taken against the tainted officers at the earliest.
