Flying abroad beware of crooks posing as immigration officials qmobile data recovery

Hyderabad: always looking for fresh prey, cyber fraudsters are now allegedly targeting those flying abroad by booking their tickets online. If officials of the cyber cell, central investigation department here are to be believed, even a few private travel agencies are part of the fraud, in which crooks manage to lay their hands on personal information of travellers.

They then call them posing as immigration officials and trick them into parting with cash. CID officials said they were targeting mostly people who provided personal details while booking tickets online.

According to U ram mohan, superintendent of police, CID, hackers were gaining access to the database of online ticket booking websites to get details of travellers.“not only websites, private travel agencies in the country are also making use of the personal data of travellers to gain money through illegal means.Immigration officer


By striking an agreement with such agencies, hackers too are minting money and stealing personal data,” he said. He said the hackers would get mobile phone numbers of the targets and then call them, posing as an immigration officer. They would be told that a case was booked against them for providing wrong identity details during the visa application process or immigration check.

“in order to create a psychological fear, the victim will be asked to appear before the immigration office. She/he is also threatened saying they will be sent to jail,” he said. Most of the victims, the SP said, fall for the trick after hearing about the legal consequences and accept to deposit money, paid in order to settle the issue, in a bank account provided by the hacker.Call them posing immigration

Many people had informally told CID officials about such frauds but none came forward to lodge a complaint officially, he said. “no immigration officer will call a traveller personally. If there are any discrepancies found during the visa application or the immigration process, the person will not be allowed to fly. That is it,” he said.
